Bronze Incense Burner 19th c.
Bronze incense burner and cover with chi dragon knop and three elephant head handles, is supported on three animal head legs. The word 'elephant' and another Chinese character, which means auspicious, are homophones. Thus, elephant became a lucky symbol. Chi dragon is a hornless dragon, which was a common motif in ancient Chinese art.
