China 2000 Fine Art (5 East 57th Street in Manhattan) takes great please in presenting It’s a Small World, a group exhibition of affordably priced and manageably sized paintings and glass works by contemporary Chinese artists. Each of the artists contributing works for this holiday exhibition is a well recognized name from previous gallery shows; each has been highly successful and admirably reviewed. Nina Kuo has created small acrylics in keeping with her popular “Pigtail Series.” Guoqing Heaton has paint ed in ink and color on paper in the Chinese xieyi style while Xu Xi uses ink and color in the Chinese splashed-ink style. Arlan Huang is exhibiting handblown glass. Wei Jia will show his collage on paper. Shen Chen will exhibit abstract works in ink on paper, and Liang Hao has contributed her contemporary bronze sculpture. The traditional paintings are works by Chinese artists from the 19th and early 20th century in the traditional hanging scroll or fan format. The scholar objects consist of antique collectibles used and admired by artists and scholars with which they surround themselves and display on the scholar’s table. All the works of art on display are priced below $1,500. Many of the prices have been reduced drastically in order accommodate the exhibition. For example, large handblown glass pieces by Arlan Huang, previously selling for $4,200, are now $1,500. Nina Kuo’s acrylics range in price from $175 to $900. All of the traditional paintings have been reduced by 50%. | |
