A Pair of Baitong Paperweights 19th c.
This pair of elongated Baitong (copper-nickel alloy) paperweights
is usually separated and placed at each end of a handscroll to reveal the
content of the scroll. When the pair is not in use, placing them side by side
on the scholar's desk reveals the elegantly engraved landscape painting. The
inscription on the top translates as: "A gift to Yong Kuan, a young friend. In
the last month of spring (lunar third month) of the year of Gengchen (1880).
From Zhou Zhongpeng".
